With her powerful mezzo-soprano voice, expressive piano playing, and unmistakable stage presence, Tori Amos has remained one of the most influential figures in contemporary alternative music for more than 35 years. Her live performances are anything butstatic. The music pulses through the entire body, blending the discipline of classical music with the passion and freedom of rock and roll.
Tori Amos’ new album, "In Times of Dragons", will be released on May 1. The record continues her signature storytelling approach to music, focusing on the search for freedom in a modern world marked by attempts to control and silence. As the artist herselfexplains, "In Times of Dragons" is a metaphorical story about the struggle between democracy and tyranny.
Throughout her career, Tori Amos has consistently addressed themes that often remain on the periphery of popular music, including the female experience, power dynamics, faith, trauma, and personal responsibility. Her songs are distinguished by literary depthand emotional directness, while the piano in her music serves not merely as an instrument, but as a full-fledged conversational partner to her voice. This uncompromising artistic approach has established her as one of the most significant and influential authors inalternative music.
At the concert in Riga, she will be joined by her longtime musical collaborators Jon Evans, musical director and bass player, and Ash Soan on drums, as well as three backing vocalists, Liv Gibson, Deni Hlavinka, and Hadley Kennary. The program will featuresongs from "In Times of Dragons" alongside highlights from her remarkable career, during which she has received nine Grammy nominations and sold more than 12 million albums worldwide.
